About Renewal Forum

The Renewal Forum, a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation based in Washington, DC, is committed to the idea of the dignity of every person. Currently this means a dedication to the abolition of human trafficking in the United States, particularly the commercial sexual exploitation of juveniles.

Renewal Forum does this by working alongside legislatures to improve written laws as well as thinking creatively about how to implement them and find victims. The Renewal Forum has also developed a “continuum of response” model that it has launched in Kansas City to make that city a community that properly responds to the commercial sexual exploitation of juveniles.

The Renewal Forum was founded by Steven Wagner, formerly Director of the Human Trafficking Program at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (2003-2006). In this capacity, he started the “Rescue and Restore Victims of Human Trafficking” public awareness campaign designed to increase victim identification and rescue—a campaign which was recognized for excellence with the prestigious Silver Anvil Award of the Public Relations Society of America.

Steve also initiated the Trafficking Information and Referral Hotline, local anti-trafficking community coalitions in 17 cities, additional programs to increase the rate of victim identification, and grant programs to better meet the restorative needs of victims.
